A great week of Tent Meeting has been held at the Calhoun County Park with the closing service tonight. Pastor David “Mike” Kerby, of Shinnston, WV, former Calhoun Countian, returned home to hold the tent meeting in hopes of stirring up the community spiritually and bringing a touch of nostalgia back home.
That’s really the purpose of a tent meeting; to get the church into a position that’s not quite as comfortable as an air conditioned sanactuary and bring back an era where the churches had a greater burden for the souls of their community. Preaching is often a littler harder and a little louder than most are used to and the evangelistic style messages hope to stir those in attendance to return to their home church with more of a desire to serve. At least that’s what I took from the messages last night from Pastor Steven Carter of Victory Baptist Church and Pastor John Elbert of Harrison County.
Pastor Kerby and Pastor Elbert will be bringing the messages this evening at 7 p.m. with special music as well. I encourage anyone from any church in the community to come and enjoy an evening at the park while listening to some great preaching. Bring a water to stay hydrated and spend the time in good fellowship that will encourage you in your walk with Christ!
