Earl D. Conley, Jr. Obituary

Earl D. Conley, Jr., 90, of Chloe, West Virginia, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, at Eagle Pointe Healthcare Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He was born September 6, 1935, in Chloe, WV, a son of the late Earl D. Conley, Sr., and Martha “Mattie” White Conley.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald “Vere” Conley, Lelah Sergent, Genole Conley, Levi “Dewey” Conley, Nina Lawrence, Mary Hayes, Wilma Conley, Noble “Graves” Conley, and Franklin “Frank” Conley.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 50 years, Carolyn Conley; his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Shawn Gates; his beloved grandchild, Jaxon Gates; and his brother, Shirley Conley.

Known affectionately as “Junior,” Earl was a hardworking man who spent many years in the sawmill and timber industry, cutting rights-of-way and working as an equipment operator on pipeline projects. He took great pride in an honest day’s work and the life he built for his family.

Outside of work, Earl was an avid fox chaser with a deep passion for draft horses. He also enjoyed cheering on the West Virginia University Mountaineers and took pride in his West Virginia roots. Earl will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, and dedication to his family.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg Road, Arnoldsburg, WV 25234, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Minnora Cemetery.
