Early Morning Accident at Cabot Station

Alexa Harvey and her family had driven from Cutler, Ohio to pick up a friend in Glenville, WV on Thursday, June 22. Along the journey home they missed the turnoff onto Tanner Road and continued Route 5 to Grantsville and then on towards Elizabeth. But shortly outside Grantsville, around 1 a.m., June 23, at the Cabot Station Recycling Center, the wind and rain brought down a dead tree that was standing above the road. The tree landed directly in front of her car without notice. Hitting the tree, Harvey lost control of her Kia, Rio car and landed against the Cabot Station Recycling Center’s chainlink fence. There were luckily no injuries.

Calhoun 911 dispatched Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department to the scene where the firefighters quickly used a chainsaw to remove the tree from the road and cleaned up the debris from the highway to prevent further accidents. Westfall’s Wrecker served pulled the car from out of its precarious position against the fence, and Trooper Brian Young of the West Virginia State police was the investigating officer.
