The past few seasons Calhoun Youth Football has become accustomed to winning the majority of their ballgames. This past weekend fans packed the stadium for a much anticipated day of ballgames against Elk River. All 3 games were matchups against highly ranked teams on both sides of the field and would have playoff seeding implications regardless of who came away victorious. Unfortunately, Calhoun did not have the day they planned as Elk River was able to walk away with a sweep of the games. Calhoun Flag fell to Elk River to start the day by a score of 6-2. The next game was C Team and Elk was able to get a 26-0 victory. Calhouns C Team now has a 3-2 record and as long as they can win one of the final 2 games will find themselves in the playoffs. Next up was the B team game which saw Elk River walk away with a 19-7 win. Calhoun now has a 4-1 record and still hold their own destiny in their hands as they are still sitting as the #2 seed in the playoff rankings. And the last game of the day was A team where Elk River able to secure a 32-0 victory remaining undefeated and dropping Calhoun to 4-1. Much like the B team they are still sitting as the 2 seed in the playoff rankings.
I like to tell my players after a game that 1 of 2 things happen, we either win or we learn. After this weekend the Little Red Devils will take away valuable lessons and learn from their mistakes on the day. They will use this as an opportunity to grow and get better. The road to this starts next Saturday September 30th as the Little Red Devils travel to Roane County High School to take on the Little Raiders in their next to last regular season game of the season. Flag game will start at Noon, C game will start at 1 with B and A games following.
