August 14, 2023 Regular Board Meeting
Following the call to order, welcome and pledge, the Calhoun County Board of Education had a ceremonial swearing in of the new Superintendent, Michael Fitzwater by Calhoun Clerk, Jean Simers.
The sparsely attended Board Meeting, having no delegations to speak, began with Board acknowledgements filled with congratulatory remarks from the Board members to Mr. Fitzwater for his new position in Calhoun County Schools
Horst Motz reported that the Calhoun Gilmer Career Center had hired Kyre-Anna Minney as Assistant Director and that the Administrative Council had elected Dr. Tony Minney, Superintendent of Gilmer County Schools as the President of the Council and Horst Motz as Vice President. Although there was the good ne ws of a Criminal Justice instructor having been found, but yet to be announced; there was bad news that the much loved and awarded Food Services instructor, Liljon McCormick was resigning to accept a position for the WV Department of Education.
Superintendent Michael Fitzwater gave his first Superintendent Report providing a list of schedules for all sports to the Board members.
Board President Jenna Jett moved to approve items A-G under New business, motion was passed. Those items included: General Fund Invoices – $ 225,993.45, Supplements– $916,339.00, Transfers – $ 0, July 2023 Financial Statement, Quarterly Financial Reports (Invoice list available for review at Calhoun County Board of Education Office), Contracts: Brother Up, Fyffe Jones Group, AC Auditors for FY2023 and FY2024, Volunteers. Surplus: 4 Large Rectangular Tables, 1 Upright Piano with Bench, 1 Office Furniture/Dresser, 1Round Student Table. Out of County Transfers: Parent: Joshua Garrett Grade:2–To Roane. Parents: Zachary and Jennifer Chancey Grade: 9. Hope Scholarship Intents 2023-2024 Parent: Dana Ferrell Grade 5. Homeschool Request Parent: Miranda Craft Grades: 11,3 and K. Parent: Samantha Murphy Grades: 2 and K. Parent: Seana Miller Grade: 6
The Board entered into Executive Session at 5:41 p.m. to discuss personnel. Executive was exited, although no mention of discussion was presented.
Motion made to accept remaining items on the agenda, meeting was adjourned with the next official meeting being September 11, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.
