The Revival of the CHS Follies has brought back memories and stories of an era in Calhoun County where music in the school was not so hard to fit into a student’s schedule. The CHS Choir boasted over 100 members at times showcasing community talent. From 1966, under the direction of Joe Wilt, the annual Follies event would pack the gymnasium at the old Calhoun County High School with parents and community to watch nothing short of a Broadway production in their memories. And that is exactly what the alumni are attempting to revive. Not only the talents of the past, but encouragement for the youth in Calhoun County to understand the importance of music in your life.
Jim Sullivan will be the Master of Ceremony, Eileen Metheney will direct the choir, and multiple soloists and groups will return to entertain. With only 15 or so in attendance at the first official meeting, you would have had to have been there to experience the sweet sound of the Alma Mater being sung in harmony by students who genuinely loved their school. It was beautiful!
The next rehearsal will be Thursday, March 24th at 6 p.m. in the Calhoun Middle High School Auditorium. All previous choir members and Calhoun Students of today are encouraged to participate. Imagine the sound of over 50 years of voices coming together for this community event?
