Veteran journalist Gaylen Duskey was named editor of the Calhoun Chronicle and Grantsville News by Michael Showell publisher of Mountain Media Inc., the parent company of the Chronicle.
“I hope to give our readers the newspaper they want and deserve,” Duskey said. “I will give it all my best.”
Duskey said a newspaper played a huge role in a community as an instrument to disseminate information and serve as an archive for the community activities and it can provide leadership if its coverage is fair and nonbiased.
He said that is the course he plans to follow.
Duskey, a native of Calhoun County, has worked for many newspapers and internet companies during his 60-plus years’ experience.
He has worked for newspapers in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Montana serving in editorial positions either as sports editor or editor. He has won national and state writing, investigating and design awards. He also was an internet pioneer working for one of the first internet companies nando.net and as director of The Baseball Net for TotalSports.com. The Baseball Net is now MLB’s Gameday which does a datacast online version of each Major League baseball game along with providing the official statistics of baseball.
He was born and raised on Hog Knob and is a 1966 graduate of Calhoun County High School and Glenville State University. He also attended Marshall University, Eastern Montana College, and Northwestern State.
He is son of Colleen B. and George Duskey. He is married to Barbara and the father of Kimberly Burrows and Elizabeth Duskey. He lives in Grantsville.
