Ridgeview News was informed by some very concerned Gilmer County residents who have taken steps to remove Sheriff John Moss from office. A petition is currently circulating in hopes of getting the 10% of Gilmer County Voter signatures required to remove Moss from office.
According to information provided and Minutes viewed on Gilmer Counties public document site, it appears that mandated reports have not been filed since August of 2022 by the Gilmer County Sheriffs Office.
Due to Moss’ failure to distribute checks from his office in a time manner, most being required by the 10th of each month, other offices and agencies have had significant concerns about their own finances. Even to the point of an Assessor’s office check bouncing because the funds were not in the account as expected.
Another issue that did not set well with many in the community was Moss’ firing and method of firing of Deputy Deputy Donald Belin.
A copy of the letter shows that he was fired on the 5th of October, 2023 at 0927. He was fired “immediately” and advised that he would be trespassing if he didn’t leave the office within 45 minutes.
