GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State University has announced its participation in AWS Academy, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) program that provides higher education institutions with a ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum. Beginning in the spring of 2023, students can enroll in courses that will prepare them to pursue careers in the fast-growing cloud computing space and industry-recognized AWS Certifications.

Recent research has shown that cloud skills are in high demand; 90% of organizations report severe shortages and nearly 80% of IT managers report their teams lack the cloud computing skills they need. The AWS Academy helps to close that skills gap with a ready-to-teach curriculum for students pursuing such employment.

“We are proud to make the AWS Academy curriculum available to our students,” said Glenville State University President, Dr. Mark A. Manchin. “The rapid rise of computing is creating a growing number of high-quality jobs at organizations around the world, and the technical skills that students develop through this program will position them well for their careers today and in the future.”

The AWS Academy curriculum is developed and maintained by AWS subject matter experts, ensuring that it reflects current services and up-to-date best practices. Courses are taught by AWS Academy-approved educators who are trained by AWS to help students become proficient in AWS technology. The curriculum includes rigorous instruction on foundational cloud concepts, developing, operations, architecting, machine learning, and data analytics.

“We are hearing from employers that they need graduates to have these skills, so this is value-added all around,” Glenville State University Workforce Learning Experience Manager, Dr. Mark Sarver. “Ultimately, these skills can set someone who is interested in a job in the technology field – whether that is someone just entering the job market or someone who is switching careers – to be very valuable.”
