Jack Duane Pettit Obituary

Jack Duane Pettit, 93, of Newberne Rd., Tanner, WV, passed away at his home on February 27, 2025, following an extended illness.

He was born on January 22, 1932, in Munday, WV, son of the late Sherman and Mildred Bell Pettit.

He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a 1950 graduate of Wirth County High School, where he was a four-year member of the Wirt County football team. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Pennzoil after 36 years. In retirement, he enjoyed his family, working on the farm, and listening to gospel music on Friday evenings in Munday.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Leona Bell Pettit; three sons Rodney (Sandy) Pettit of Sand Fork, WV; Rick of Tanner, WV, and Richard Pettit of Tanner, WV; five granddaughters: Jodi (Matt) Snider of Parkersburg, WV, Sydney Pettit of Washington, DC, Cassondra Pettit of Parkersburg, WV, and Gracie and Izzie Pettit, both of Clarksburg, WV; one great-grandson Elias Blizzard, one brother Tom Pettit, and one sister Shirley Thomas.

In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by two brothers Lewis and Norman and one sister Norma.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 107 Market St., Grantsville, WV 26147, on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Wolverton Cemetery, Wirt County, WV. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com
