Kirkbride Arrested on Drug Charges Associated with Carpenter

In a complaint filed by Prosecuting Attorney, Nigel Jeffries, it stated that on n February 26, 2023, Sgt. C.J. Weekley of the WVSP was asked by Calhoun County Probation Officer Alisha Lawson to accompany her on a compliance check of the residence of Victor Carpenter, Sr. a probatione. Officer Lawson and Sgt. Weekley arrived at the residence located at 2261 Rowles Run Rd, Mount Zion and when inside the residence, Officer Lawson and Sgt. Weekley located the accused Kristina Kirkbride. Shortly thereafter, it was established that Ms. Kirkbride had recently been residing with the Probationer. Once in the bedroom of the Probationer, in plain view, was a dish containing a white powdery substance along with a razor blade. The razor blade was that being a common implement used to prepare controlled substances for consumption. Also in the bedroom were burnt strips of aluminum foil, needles, and a single-use naloxone nasal spray device.

Ms. Kirkbride was read her Miranda rights at this time. After which she stated that the white powdery substance present on the dish in the bedroom contained a small amount of fentanyl. Indeed, Ms. Kirkbride stated that she has been consuming controlled substances nearly every day in the past few weeks after a recent relapse. After further investigation, on February 21, 2023, the undersigned was provided a drug screen from Victor Carpenter, Sr. confirming that he tested positive for fentanyl–and its major metabolite norfentanyl.

Based on the present facts and circumstances, it appears that Ms. Kirkbride has recently moved into Carpenter’s residence and has been procuring controlled substances for herself and for him, including the fentanyl that she delivered to Carpenter which he subsequently consumed and, thereafter, tested positive for on or about February 21, 2023. Further, based on Ms. Kirkbride’s own statement she knew the substance that she delivered to the Carpenter contained fentanyl, a Schedule II narcotic.

Kirkbride was charged with Possession with intent to Deliver a Controlled substance which if convicted she may be imprisoned in a state correctional facility for not less than one year nor more than 15 years, or fined not more than $25,000, or both fined and imprisoned: Provided, That any person who violates this section knowing that the controlled substance classified in Schedule II is fentanyl, either alone or in combination with any other substance shall be fined not more than $50,000, or be imprisoned in a state correctional facility for not less than 3 mor more than 15 years, or both fined and imprisoned.

Kirkbride was arrested on March 8th, 2023 and taken to the North Central Regional Jail. She is being held on $30,000 bond for Calhoun and without bond for Wood County.
