From the day I moved to Calhoun I saw potential, today I realized others see it too. We have so many great recreational opportunities to share from our rivers to our roads.

Friday, February 17th, 2023, myself, Nathan Allison and Commissioner Craig Arthur walked into a packed room to attend the Governor’s round table for outdoor recreation during the WV Adventure Day at the Capitol. After a brief introduction from our group to those in the room we began being almost immediately overwhelmed with excitement from national and state organizations who have Calhoun pinned on the top of their lists to expand into.

We have had a very busy but exciting week. The Governor’s round table capped off a couple of very productive days for Calhoun with sit down meetings involving Speaker Hanshaw, Senator Queen, Senator Maynard plus meeting many other delegates and senators as we attended events on the Capitol grounds. I want to thank Crystal Laughlin Mersh for encouraging all of us to get out and roll our sleeves up and make a difference. She is such a valuable resource and her heart truly is for the people of Calhoun.

It was great to see my friends from Fission Cycles have their e-bikes inside the Capitol and leading the way on some legislation which will open the state up to all e-bikes. Joseph Overbaugh and Tony Overbaugh from Fission Cycles have deep roots in Calhoun County and it is great seeing their success.
We have such a great opportunity ahead of us. Please if you are interested in helping develop recreational activities in the county plan to attend the next bootstraps meeting. I look forward to our followup meetings at the state level and excited to “Get the wheels turning towards Calhoun” to quote Governor Justice “It’s go time”
