On Thursday, December 29th, 2022 shortly before 1 a.m. Trooper J. D. Richards was notified by Calhoun Control that Kenzi Lynn Shreve had called from the address of 3181 Altizer Rd. in Arnoldsburg, regarding an intoxicated female at the residence that was acting insane, assaulting and battering individuals who were at the residence and reportedly outside of the residence destroying her own vehicle.
When Trooper Richards arrived on scene at around 1:15 p.m. he made contact with the complainant (Ms. Shreve) about what was going on at the residence. He was made immediately aware by her and other witnesses at the residence that Paige Lynn Mangus, 20 years of age, had arrived at the house inebriated coming back from the Stone in Millstone, WV. Mangus returned to the Stone to retrieve her phone and then once again returned back to the Shreve residence. After this Shreve, along with others confiscated the accused’s keys to her vehicle. After this, according to Brady Lucas Fox and Terry Dean Marks, Mangus started to act erratic trying to take back possession of her keys. During her attempt to take back possession of her keys Mangus bit both victims by all accounts. Trooper Richards observed teeth marks on Marks as well as a nasty-fresh wound on Mr. Fox. When Trooper Richards inquired about these bites to the accused, she did state that she inflicted them.
At the time of questioning Mangus was sitting in her vehicle (without the keys). Trooper Richards had Ms. Shreve call a family member of Mangus to come and pick her up from the residence and he detained her by handcuffing her and placing her in his cruiser where it was warm. When her family arrived they discovered that Mangus’ vehicle had very little gas and had been damaged by her including a cracked windshield and multiple dents.
Trooper Richards placed Mangus under arrest on the charges of battery incurred from biting the victims. He then transported her to Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville where she was examined and offered treatment for her self inflicted wounds from her erratic behavior including her right pinky that was broken previously. She was then released from the hospital after receiving care and taken to the WVSP Grantsville Detachment for processing, charging her under §61-2-9. Malicious or unlawful assault; assault; battery; penalties. – (c) Battery. — Any person who unlawfully and intentionally makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature to the person of another or unlawfully and intentionally causes physical harm to another person is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be confined in jail for not more than twelve months or fined not more than $500, or both fined and confined.
