Multiple Injuries in Bus Rollover on Mt. Zion

Shortly after 6 p.m. the Calhoun County School Activity Bus #5 left Calhoun Middle School traveling South on Route 16. It was reported that in the sweeping turn in front of Principal Jeremy Johnson’s home, and the next door home of Principal Gina Cano-Stump, that bus driver, Jeff Brannon, lost control. After hitting the ditch-line and possibly over correcting the bus flipped onto its side in the lawn of Steve and Portia Miller.

Approximately 15 students were transported by ground to Minnie Hamilton, while one was life flighted by air evac. It was reported (but not known for certain) that no injuries were life threatening. Several broken bones were reported.

Fire Departments from Grantsville, Arnoldsburg, Clover and Roane were on scene and multiple police agencies. Trooper Brian Young of the WV State Police is the lead investigating officer with Trooper Nathan Stepp from Roane County assisting. Sheriff Graham Knight and Deputy Jeff Hunt were on scene as well.

Bus driver Jeff Brannon was arrested for Driving Under the influence. This story will be updated as further information becomes available.
