No. 12 Pioneers Downed by #6 Fairmont State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The No. 12 Glenville State Acrobatics & Tumbling team came up short on Senior Night against No. 6 Fairmont State in their final home meet of the season Saturday (Mar. 21), falling 267.370-256.910. The loss moves the Pioneers to (5-2) overall and (4-1) in MEC play, while the Falcons remain unbeaten at (6-0).

The afternoon opened with the Compulsory Event, featuring the Acro, Pyramid, Toss, and Tumbling heats. Fairmont State quickly grabbed momentum, winning three of the four heats, with an event high score of 9.75 in the Pyramid heat. Glenville’s top performances came in the Pyramid and Toss heats with a 9.55 and a 9.60, but even with the strong scores the Falcons built an early 37.10-36.35 lead. Glenville responded quickly in the Acro Event, winning all three heats with a score of 9 or more. A 9.80 in the 7 Element heat helped the Pioneers take a 64.55-63.70 lead at the end of the event. 

The Pyramid Event proved to be one of the tighter segments of the meet. The Pioneers turned in three consistent routines, posting a 9.65 or higher in each heat. Fairmont State answered with two scores of 9.85, narrowly taking the event 29.35-29.20. The competitive back and forth resulted in a close score of 93.75-93.05 heading into halftime. Following the half was the Toss Event. Looking to retake the lead, the Falcons impressed and delivered two scores of 9.60 and one 9.50. Glenville fought back with a 9.80 in the 450 Salto, but Fairmont moved back on top, winning the event 28.70-27.95. 

In the Tumbling Event, the Falcons extended their lead by winning five of the six heats. Glenville recorded steady scores throughout the event, especially in the solo passes, highlighted by another 9.80 in the Open Pass. Still, Fairmont’s depth led to a 55.00-52.20 advantage. The meet wrapped up with the Team Event, where Fairmont State closed strong with a 90.620. Glenville State posted an 83.010, but the Falcons’ lead throughout the meet secured them a 267.370-256.910 win against the Pioneers. 

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers close out the regular season next Sunday (Mar. 29) at West LIberty. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. inside the ASRC.
