Primary Election Update of State Republican Party Decision

Important Primary Election Update

This weekend, the West Virginia Republican Party State Executive Committee voted to continue with a party-rule change. This was NOT a legislative vote and NOT a vote by the House or Senate. This was an internal party decision — just as the Democrat Party has the same right to set rules for their own primary elections.

Here is the result of that vote:

Unaffiliated (independent) voters WILL NOT be permitted to vote a Republican ballot in the upcoming May Primary.

If you are currently registered as Independent/unaffiliated and want to participate in the Republican Primary, you will need to change your registration to Republican. You have a limited time (by April 21, 2026) before the primary to change your registration in order to vote on the Republican ballot in the primary.
