Riggs Charged with Prohibited Person with Firearm

In a Complaint filed by Brian E. Young of the West Virginia State Police, on November 24th, 2023, Young was dispatched to Chloe, WV for a single vehicle Motor Vehicle Accident involving a gray Ford Explorer that had ran off into a “boggy” field. A witness passing by informed 911 that the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and walked toward a barn located near the crash site with a rifle in his hands and placed it behind the barn.

When Trooper Young identified Bradley Keith Riggs as the only occupant of the vehicle and knew him to be prohibited from possessing a firearm, he asked him where he had placed the rifle. Riggs responded saying that he was related to the owners of the next property but denied having any knowledge of the firearm.

Trooper Young then drove to the property beside the crash site and inquired of the occupants as to the whereabouts of the firearm, being told by one of the occupants that he had met defendant, Bradley Keith Riggs behind the barn to retrieve the firearm from him and take it to the house. He then presented the rifle to Trooper Young which was a Savage 308 hunting rifle, and a brown in color jacket. Identifying both as the property of Riggs.

Trooper Young verified through the WVSP dispatch that the accused was a convicted felon with a conviction date of 11/01/2017 for felony obtaining property false pretense and a second conviction on 6/08/2017 for felony larceny after breaking and entering in the State of North Carolina.

Bradley Keith Riggs was placed under arrest for prohibited person with a firearm and taken to the WV Central Regional Jail where he await trial. He is being held on a $3000 bond.
