Saturday Evening Ice Cream Run Falls Short

William Bailey’s wife had just finished a berry cobbler, when it was decided he would run to town for ice cream to top the treat. But a decision to take the shorter route fell way short when he attempted to cross the back water on Pine Creek Road. His 2018 Equinox stalled in the knee deep water, causing him to have to exit the car mid stream. The lights, wipers and horn felt obliged to mock him for nearly 45 minutes, refusing to shut off even though the keys were removed from the car.

Cpl. CJ Myers was on scene to investigate the incident.

Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for assistance.

Westfall’s Wrecker Service removed the car from the flood waters with the help of Mr. Bailey who returned into the depth of the cold water to hook the tow line.

The accident occurred across from the home of Jesse and Chelsea Godfrey. Jesse had to swim the flood waters last night to get things for his family and use his canoe to return across. Beneath the water is a bridge with a tree across it which cannot be seen due to the depth of the water.
