Still No Recorder Appointed to Fill Vacancy

The Town of Grantsville held their September meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd at City Hall on Main Street. Council attending was Tonya Cunningham, Jess Metz, Chasity Bell, Emilee Morgan and Marissa Staples, with meeting led by Mayor John Villines.

Although there were said to be applications made for the Grantsville Recorder position to be appointed, the council determined to run the advertisement again, noting the additional $200 per month raise on the position that was approved later in the meeting.

Funding that had been left over from the now completed Rainbow Demolition project was voted to be transferred to ARC grant account to keep that account open for additional funding at a later date.

A City Council work session will bee held on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025 at 6 p.m.

Tina Hamrick Director of the Calhoun FRN addressed the City Council to remind them that September is Recovery Month and provided a calendar of activities for the entire month, encouraging everyone to participate in the month long activities. Mrs. Hamrick stated that everyone recovers differently from substance abuse, which is why the FRN’s programs address recovery on an individual basis. The FRN offers weekly meetings and encourage groups and organization to stop by or request Narcan training.

The council went into an executive session to discuss staff. Upon exiting the executive session the council made motions and approved a $1.00 on the hour raise for John Canterbury and approved a $200 monthly raise for the soon to be appointed Recorder. A question from the audience arose wanting to know if the recorder would receive the raise now or following the next election. Mayor John Villines stated that the raise would be effective immediately, being that the Recorder is not in office at the time of the decision.

The Town Council has created a new Facebook page which can be viewed here.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
