The 1982 Foundation Fall Fest 2023 – A day full of food, fun and festivities!

The annual Fall Fest of The 1982 Foundation did not disappoint, nor did the weather. Although temperatures at times got a little cool, the crowd bundled up and enjoyed the day mulling around the Wayne Underwood field to view crafts, food and informational vendors, antique cars and most importantly spent time catching up and connecting with friends.

Foodies got the opportunity to try the Tiki Taco Hut cuisines as well as a Coffee and Cocoa Bar, or taste testing the Cook-Off entries. Winners of 2023 Cook off were :

  • 1st place to Jeff Church for the Pork Loin
  • 2nd Place to Kathy Badgett for the Potato Soup
  • 3rd Place to Melissa West’s Pineapple Upside Down cake
  • 4th Place went Jim Sullivan for his chicken

Calhoun Businesses were encouraged to decorate for fall for which the 1982 Foundation traveled around the area to scope out the festive views for judging.

  • Best Fall Theme, J & B Drug Store in Grantsville
  • Best in Show, Calhoun Banks
  • 1st – HIstorical Society in Grantsvil
  • 2nd – Miller Suds and Sales on Mt. Zion
  • 3rd – Mom’s Place Too in Grantsville

Car Show Winners were:

  • 1st – Lou Rader
  • 2nd – Danny Maxwell
  • 3rd – Brian Lamont
  • Best of Show – Allen Dawson
  • Honorable Mention – Jimmy Gregory

Bill and JoAnn Stevens were honored for their watch care of the flowers on The 1982 Foundation Property. They were awarded free admission to all 2024 Spice Events.

The Agricultural Building was dedicated in memory of Elva Lamont, given due credit for creating Crystal Mersh’s love and compassion for goats. A goat workshop was also a part of the days events.

Jason Cunningham updated those in attendance on the current status of Foundation projects. The next section on the schedule for renovation and reinvigoration is the Gymnasium and Education Center. Town should be bustling with contactors soon!

Several musicians played throughout the afternoon and following the announcement of event winners, Evangelist Sebby Volpe delivered a message on the State of the Nation, County and Church that received Amens all around.
