Three Calhoun County FFA members have earned their American FFA Degrees and will have the honor accepting their Degree Award at the 2025 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana later this month!
Trista Arnold, Jaelyn Jett, and Lindsey Schoolcraft have spent countless hours working towards this degree. Within the National FFA Organization, members have the opportunity to earn degrees at various levels based on their work ethic in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). These degrees range from Greenhand and Chapter degrees earned at the local level, to state level State degrees, and the golden key of the American FFA Degree at the National level.
SAEs are an integral part of agriculture education and allow members to expand their learning outside of the classroom. All three of our American Degree Recipients earned their degrees through livestock SAEs, but FFA members can have a wide variety of SAEs ranging from livestock to landscaping, job shadowing, food science, and a variety of topics in between. These ladies have developed their livestock SAEs to include raising their own cattle or goats, showing new species such a swine, and showing at jackpot or state fairs in addition to the local Calhoun County Youth Livestock Program show and sale.
The American FFA Degree they have earned is the highest degree an FFA member can earn. Less than 1% of FFA’s one million members earn this degree. It is a culmination of years of effort and means that these members have earned and invested more than $10,000 and completed more than 50 hours of community service, among other requirements.
According to records, these are also the first American Degrees for the Calhoun FFA chapter in over 60 years, with only one other American Degree being earned in the history of the chapter! The work that these girls have put in to earn this degree is impressive, and is a testament to their determination. However, the American FFA Degree is an attainable goal for many FFA members, and the Calhoun chapter looks to have more recipients in the future.
Trista, Jaelyn, and Lindsey have earned the right to walk across a national stage in front of thousands of fellow FFA members in Indianapolis, and live of RFD-TV, on November 1st. To help them achieve this goal, they, along with other convention bound FFA members, a bingo was hosted on Saturday in Arnoldsburg to support this hard working group of Calhoun FFA youth!
