In a *complaint filed on March 13, 2026 in Calhoun Magistrate Court, Sgt. Nathan S. Stepp of the Grantsville WV State Police Department reported the following:

At approximately 2:38 a.m. on March 13th, 2026, Sgt. Nathan S. Stepp responded to 25536 South Calhoun Highway, Chloe, WV.

Upon approaching the residence Sgt. Stepp observed the front door open and discovered a deceased adult female lying in the kitchen area of the resident. The victim had sustained a large laceration on the left side of her head consistent with severe blunt force trauma.

During his investigation, witnesses identified Mickey “Case” Carter as being present at the residence during the time frame in which the homicide occurred. Mickey “Case” Carter had been dropped off at the victim’s residence earlier that day with a Subway sandwich later found lying on the counter in the kitchen.

A neighbor reported observing Carter in the area of the residence during the relative time frame. Law Enforcement later received information from a motorist that a male covered in blood was walking along the roadway near the crime scene. Sgt. Stepp subsequently located Mickey “Case” Carter approximately one mile from the residence. Carter was covered in what appeared to be blood.

Carter provided a confession to the investigators in which he admitted to causing the death of the victim at the residence located at 25536 South Calhoun Highway and provided details regarding how he caused her death.

Based on the discovery of the victim, evidence and confession, Sgt. Stepp had probable cause to believe that Mickey “Case” Carter did unlawfully, willingly, deliberately and with premeditation kill the victim.

A warrant was requested, received and served upon Mickey Case Carter in Kanawha County for First Degree Murder. Carter had been taken to a hospital in Kanawha County for head injuries of an unknown origin. He was later released from the hospital, arraigned by a Kanawha County Magistrate and transported to the South Central Regional Jail where he awaits trial proceedings in Calhoun County without bond.
