The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is thrilled to announce that Payton Brown has been selected as the recipient of the coveted RMEF Leadership Award for their exceptional contributions to conservation, leadership, and dedication to the role of hunting in conservation efforts. The award includes a $5,000 scholarship, a year’s membership to the RMEF, and a feature in the RMEF’s esteemed magazine, “The Bugle.”
Payton Brown’s tireless commitment to conservation and their impressive leadership in fostering a harmonious relationship between hunting and conservation made them the ideal candidate for this prestigious award. With a deep-rooted passion for the preservation of wildlife and natural habitats, Payton has consistently demonstrated their dedication to ensuring a sustainable future for Rocky Mountain elk and the ecosystems they inhabit.
The RMEF Leadership Award recognizes Payton’s impressive achievements and their remarkable record in conservation. Their hands-on experience in promoting conservation efforts and advocating for responsible hunting practices has significantly raised awareness about the crucial role hunting plays in maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
“This program prepares you for the best in any wildlife management field.” said Payton Brown. “Mainly being all field work, you get real world experience that also doubles for your classroom.”
Brown, a native of Summersville, WV has known Glenville for a while. His parents Brandi ‘01 and Jason Brown ‘97,’99 is also Glenville State Alumni that have had successful careers within their fields.
“I am honored to have written a strong recommendation letter for Payton’s application for the scholarship.” said Dr. Rico M. Gazal, Professor of Forestry. “This is the first of its kind in the Department and I am glad that Payton applied and got it. I hope that other students in the Wildlife Management major will also take advantage of this scholarship in the future.”
