High Winds and Rotting Trees Bring Power Lines Down

There was no electricity for about two hours from just South of Grantsville to the Millstone area, as well as small highway branches due to trees falling across power lines near the home of Larry Whited. The downed trees took out one large section of the power lines knocking them into the highway and closing down Route 16 South Calhoun Highway for about an hour while the West Virginia Department of Highways and MonPower cleared lines and trees.

Mon Power units have been out since early morning due to high winds in the area. One unit just happened to drive up on scene shortly after the incident allowing a quick response for customers to have their electric back. Also on scene to assist with traffic control was the Calhoun Sheriff Department and the West Virginia State Police.
