Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.
Jerry Duskey, age 71, of Burning Springs was killed in a car wreck on Elizabeth hill. He was buried Sunday in the Wright cemetery. In his younger years he worked for the WEVA Oil company. He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean, two sons & grandchildren.
Ellen Hedge is said to be on the mend and may get to come home after breaking some back bones.
Old Brer Whistle Pig announced that it would be an early spring and Creston is having balmy [for February] weather. Speaking of ground hogs there is one up at the state game farm at French Creek that is a prognosticator. The USDA has given the state and the game farm just 60 days to build another fence around the property or be shut down. Of course, with bidding rules and such it would be impossible to build another fence in just 60 days. Needless to say, the swamp critters hold W. Va. citizens in very low regard. If the game farm is closed perhaps the animals could be placed in the White House fence; it is said to be secure.
Tom Mowrey got to “come home ” and is staying with Jenny. However, he now has an infected elbow after a fall.
The comely Kim Mowrey has been having medical problems.
The folks at Shade Tree noted that one of their favorites will no longer be available as a box [as they buy it] went from $50 to $90. Obviously, inflation is with us to stay. Some folks love hot cocoa complete with floating marshmallows [at least some did before they became diabetic]. Such will be more expensive now as the price of cocoa rose to $4,961/ton, the highest ever.
The tree cutting crew lopped off the side of evergreen trees in folks’ front yard and left other trees looking like the area was populated by morons who would allow such. Of course, in 1933 during “the great leap forward” all control of the highway system was transferred to the Mouth of the Elk where all the “smart people” live. If all this nonsense had any impact on road maintenance there might be some argument but there is none. If it were so all the big trees where the “wizards” live would be cut down to protect the black top. In a county just to the north there were so many wood chips in the ditch that a contractor had to be called in with a Gradall to clean out the ditch so water could flow.
Ever since the Nuremburg trials [Nazi experiments on Jews and others] there is international laws concerning “informed consent” and such also exists in US law. Now there is a big push to pooh pooh such as “old fashioned” and “outdated” as now, don’t you know, the “smart ones” know best. Are they planning on spraying us with untested medicines, sterilants and such? Dr. Fauci’s wife, who was the head of the “ethics” department where he was employed wrote lots of papers about modifying informed consent.
Royal Dutch Shell announced that their ethane cracker will not be completely on line for another year and the facility cost $14 billion. Presently most of the ethane produced locally goes to distant states and nations to make finished products . Obviously that is of no concern to the “leaders” down at the Mouth of the Elk. No quick bucks for promoting real businesses that would make the state prosper.
The ruling junta announced a freeze on building new LNG (liquified natural gas) export facilities to “prevent global warming”. It was recently reported that in 2023 the most coal ever burned in a year happened. Some years back coal was banned for heating and cooking and in the US and western Europe coal fired power plants and factories have been closed “to save the earth”. Could it be that coal burned in Russia, Indonesia, India and China causes the earth to cool? Or is the truth really that none of this had any impact and temperature and weather are controlled by the sun.
It has now made national news that “a clerical error by a third party vendor” fouled up the valuations of new Marcellus & Utica wells costing some W. Va counties $millions in ad valorem taxes. The tax department sent out tax increase letters that have no $ figures only that “more than 10% and $1000″. Questions were asked and FOIAs were sent but the state tax men said, ” that is none of your business; bug out, you are to pay, not ask nasty questions.” It was reported that Ritchie County was hit for $4 million and Tyler for $15 million. The county boards of Equalization & Review apparently are not allowed to intervene. After all, counties are so old fashioned say the elites.
The main stream media are not talking about it but in Europe there are major demonstrations by farmers fighting against the “green weenies” who want to stop agriculture. When Al Gore Jr. was vice president he said we should shut down US agriculture and get all our food from 3rd world countries. Perhaps the elites in Paris, Berlin, London and Washington D. C. might choose to eat factory raised insects & “fake meat” but Creston folks are into real meat, game, fish, potatoes, vegetables & fruit. The “ecocide” folks can go take tours of places where there is real famine and maybe stay there.
Not so long back there was a sale of some storage fields down in the deep south for an arm’s length transaction. Folks wanted to know how this related to the value of storage fields in W. Va. where the usual rent is $1/acre/year [not adjusted for inflation]. Apparently West Virginia has 533 bcf [billion cubic feet] of gas storage so there are numbers to work with. Some now want storage for CO2 and for ethane and other gas liquids. Be careful what you sign.
Nowhere in the US Constitution does it say where the federal government can tell you how to cook your food or what kind of buggy, wagon or automobile one can operate but until someone sends the jack booted thugs packing we are being told we must drive EVs. Now tax dollars are being doled out for EV charging stations. Under the rules Martha’s Vineyard was declared “low income” so a taxpayer funded charger could be installed for the benefit of the plutocrats that live and vacation there. Makes one feel warm and fuzzy, doesn’t it. Martha’s Vineyard is the enclave that went ballistic when some illegal aliens were sent there.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude fell to $71.28/bbl. with condensate, formerly called Appalachian light sweet, fetching $53.28/bbl. Marcellus & Utica light was $62.28 and medium $71.28/bbl. Henry Hub natural gas was $2.08/MMBTU.
