There were 359 riders in the summer Creston ATV Poker Run which had to be a record for the summer ride. Erin Seller came in fist & Brian Cottrell had both the second & third best hands. Glen Underwood won the 50/50. The community would like to thank all those who came & rode, those who set up & took down the trail, mailed out the cards, signed up the riders, sold tee shirts & chances on the quilt, sold 50/50 tickets, fixed & served the food, parked the trucks & trailers, allowed folks to park on their land, donated door prizes, cleaned the building and all the other items necessary to pull off the event. One woman noted, “we broke an axle, lost a tire off a rim and pulled someone back to the Community Building . . . We had a good time”. There are lots of videos on the world wide web showing folks going through the mud and even one of Alan & Peaches covering Chancy with mud [wasn’t intentional]. The route went through Wirt, Roane & Jackson counties and it was a wonderful day to be outside, not too hot nor humid. Several it was reported, tried out the “he-man” holes and some had to be extricated, especially down in Beaver Dam. One young damsel who was with a fellow who works in car parts place in Spencer looked like someone threw her in one of the deep holes. Someone washed her up some when they got to the Beaver Dam ford.
St. Marys, Pleasants, Ritchie, Doddridge, Lewis & Upshur counties & Washington County Ohio had high wind and cloudbursts but Creston had only a little rain. The storm put five feet of water in the river so Chancy chose wisely to take the poker run route to Sunflower. The W. Va. Farm Bureau office in Buckhannon had 3 feet of water and some folks drowned. Former State Senator Donna Boley made news but in a bad way as a tornado demolisher her home while she and another woman were inside. Neither were injured seriously.
Delegate Erica Moore & husband were visiting with folks who were participating in the Creston poker run.
Vincenzo Guice was visiting his cousin W. Harrison Schenerlein IV at Creston and they got a SXS hung up down on the Creston island, not realizing that the water had been up and had soaked the ground. Ted Grim rescued the young chaps from their dilemma.
Those who have occasion to moter to Elizabeth from Creston should note the sunflowers along the guardrail at the mouth of Still Run. Back when the Hendersons (of Henderson Hall fame) lived in Wood County [or what is now Wirt County] their still was on Still Run. They grew corn and made it into a finished product that they could ship back east to be consumed.
Apparently Jackson & Roane counties did not apply enough herbicide this spring to comply with the “core maintenance guidelines” so copious amounts were applied on both highways & byways so folks could have their “mandated” exposure. Apparently, Road Commissioner Dimbulb believes that the flatland touristers want to see the “brownfields look” when they come to visit, tour & spend money here.
Folks have seen some nice bucks that are now in the velvet.
Those who went to the “open house” for the big power lines to care for the elites down in the lower Potomac swamps reported that the new lines would do nothing to improve the poor electric service that local folks must endure. In fact a big honcho from First Energy told a Calhoun County commissioner that there were NO Plans for any upgrades in the local area. The new high lines would be blight on the community, make thousands of acres nearly worthless and generate almost no taxes for the local folks. One claimed there would be jobs but there are no unions for such in W. Va. And judging from recent contractors, the union halls must be in Juarez, Tijuana & Mexicali. The Roane County meeting will be July 28 from 4 P. M. At the Armory in Spencer.
New York governor Mrs. Hochul said, “whoever owns AI owns the future” and then she enacted a ban on the construction of data centers for AI in the Empire state. Presently there are 4,000 data centers in the nation and it seems that they do not cause all the bad things that the anti AI folks claim but, of course, Dictator Xi does not want competition and there are those in America who are gullible and there are those [including some in government] who can be purchased (bought).
Rusty Hutson Jr.’s Diversified plans to build a gas fired power plant for a data center near Jenkins Kentucky.
The government plans to have a bid auction September for leases on 2,795 acres in the Wayne National Forest, just across the river in Ohio. The area has both Marcellus & Utica formations.
It was reported that by 2031 the second largest export item for the nation is LNG and it would seem that a significant part of W. Va. Gas is going to foreign markets although the state and royalty owners are not being paid the actual sales price. It is also reported that natural gas to power data centers will become “scarce” within two years and there will be a “knife fight” with the LNG exports as to who gets the gas. Presently local producers are “almost giving away their gas for a fraction of the price paid years ago.
As a result of bad actions from those ‘savages’ calling for death to America the price of crude oil is said to be, once again, in the $100 range but local Pennsylvania grade [the best oil anywhere was $87.31/bbl. With condensate fetching $70.31/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light being $77.31/bbl.
