Sampson Faces Burglary and Grand Larceny Charges

In a complaint filed in the Calhoun Magistrate Court on April 30th, 2024 by Trooper Brian Young, he stated that on or about April 10, 2024, 37 year old Travis Sampson, entered a locked residence, located at 319 Granny She Road, Chloe, Calhoun County, WV, while no one was present, He removed multiple household items, camping items, work hand tools, multiple Dewalt cordless power tools to include batteries and chargers, 12 pair of homemade iron tool plyers with the a special seal stamped on them made by the homeowner. Also taken was a 2005 Honda CRF 230 motorcycle red in color, red and white in color, a 2007 orange and black in color KTM 300 c motorcycle, a Honda Fore Traxx 360 XCW, a 2005 Ford F-250, forge blower for making iron and metal tools, 3 gun safes with multiple rifle, shotguns, and handguns and a Westinghouse generator, blue in color.

On April 30, 2024, the victim and homeowner, Jesse Alan, came home from a two-month trip and called and reported a burglary at his home located at 319 Granny She Rd, Chloe, Calhoun County, WV.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m. officer Young responded to the burglary report and spoke with the victim, Jesse Allan. Mr. Allan stated that his family had left approximately 2 months ago to work and vacation. He stated he was contacted approximately 2 weeks ago by his neighbor, who informed him that his truck was missing from the driveway, and it appears someone had entered his house because the door was open. The victim stated he had been contacted by Deputy Williams, of the Braxton County Sheriff’s Department and informed his stolen pickup truck was discovered on Buttermilk Road, approximately 7 miles from his residence.

The victim started making a list of items that were discovered to be stolen from his residence. This included the 2005 Ford F-250, silver in color pickup truck, a red and white in color Honda CRF 230 motorcycle with the engine heads being messed up and needing work, an orange and black in color 2007 KTM motorcycle, his assortment of DeWalt power tools, to include the Chargers and batteries with his name on them, homemade forged tools, made by himself with a special stamp on them, three gun safes and multiple rifles, shotguns and handguns and a list of camping and household goods.
These officers then drove the victim to Buttermilk Road, and located his abandoned vehicle. The battery was taken from the vehicle as well as the license plate.

Trooper Young recalled going to a possible burglary call on Thursday, April 25, 2004, at 1460 Hunt Rd, Chloe, Calhoun WV, and observing a Honda motorcycle matching the description given by the victim, parked beside the house with the top of the engine removed. This officer then drove the victim to Hunt Road. Upon arrival this officer and the victim observed the motorcycle to be sitting right beside the road, which he recognized and identified instantly. Upon exiting the car, the victim also identified multiple De Walt tools and batteries near the motorcycle with his name on them. During this time it was also discovered that the license plate from the victim’s vehicle was affixed to a Jeep parked beside the camper belonging to the accused, Travis Wayne Sampson. Looking inside the vehicle, in plain sight, these officers discovered documentation from the victim’s vehicle to include a diagnostic print out with the make year model and VIN of the victim’s stolen vehicle, and the battery from the victim’s vehicle. Also laying on the passenger seat, was a freezer bag with handwritten notes on it containing ammunition and change. The victim identified this bag as a freezer bag they had used in his residence.

When Trooper Young and other officers walked down Hunt Road, the victim identified a DeWalt drill, driver, and saw, lying beside the roadway in front of the main residence located at 1460 Hunt Rd. also laying on the ground with these tools, was a Ford key on a red key chain, that the victim instantly identified as his wife’s truck key. All Dewalt cordless tools were recovered on the property of the accused

Trooper Young then secured a search warrant for the entire property and continued to search the buildings and surrounding land and discovered other stolen items to include: The 2005 Honda 230 CRF motorcycle with a value of $1800, 12 homemade iron plyers made by the victim with his seal affixed to them with a value of $600, New ignition coils for aFord F-250 truck, 6each, with avalue of $255, Multiple cordless Dewalt power tools with charger and batteries with the victim’s name written on them, valued at $2100, a Box of welding certification books taken from the victims house, Mail and medical documents with the victims name affixed and addressed to, A Ford key, belonging to the victims wife taken from the home and the battery from the victims vehicle, The value of the 2005 Ford F-250 is $8,000 paid by the victim for the truck.

Travis Wayne Sampson was arrested, charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny. He awaits trial in the WV Central Regional Jail where he is being held on a $75,000 bond.

The accused is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
