There’s a Price for Not Attending the Grantsville Town Council Meeting on Tuesday

Ridgeview News was once again not notified by a government office of meeting day and time. The Town of Grantsville took a page from the play book of county officials who do not seem to want the general public to know of their official meetings and plans. Government meetings are not necessarily fun, but if you’re concerned about your utility bills infringing on your pocketbook, you should know what decisions your government officials are making on your behalf. If they’re truly serving the public, they’d do everything within their power to make sure the people they serve know. They do not notify the Ridgeview of their meetings, they’ve changed meeting days and times, and they have a past history of making decisions without you. Their decisions will have a trickle down effect on the Mt. Zion and Pleasant Hill PSD customers as well.

Any one on public water, whether that be Grantsville Residents or PSD Customers need to understand the impact that the Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 Town Council meeting, is going to have. There will likely be an impending 60% rate increase for water customers.

Ridgeview does not have an agenda, but the second reading and immediate vote could very well happen as Mayor Robert Petrovsky continues to push the increase through, without having proven the justification of that increase.

Ridgeview News will cover the meeting live, but my presence will do nothing to stop the increase from taking place. The citizens have got to show up in number, and look the decision makers in the eye, asking them, what is the justification of this rate increase? How can you justify adding a 60% jump to the already economically distressed community with the greater majority of the citizens on a fixed low income.

Other good questions to ask are:

  1. “Why are you preventing citizens from knowing when you meet?”
  2. How did you calculate that a 60% increase was needed?
  3. The WVPSC said you did not prove the need when they investigated your last request, what’s changed?

The Tuesday meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Grantsville City office. Seating may or may not be available. Perhaps you could bring your own.

The town office telephone No. is 354-7500.
