Social media posts and phone calls from concerned parents have expressed fear from their children due to rumored threats regarding children’s safety Calhoun Middle High School. Ridgeview news phoned the Calhoun County Board of Education who responded by directing them to their social media page and a post made 19 hours ago regarding threats in another State.
According to a parent a newer post with an updated list of schools has been circulating with Calhoun and other West Virginia schools causing fear to spread. Although this is likely a hoax, it has not set well with parents and students.

In light of recent posts circulating on social media, we want to be transparent. Some posts mentioned schools, but it’s important to clarify that those schools were located in the state of Georgia.
First, we want to thank the parents and students who reported these concerns. We worked closely with our local law enforcement to ensure that there was no direct threat to our school. The safety of our students and staff is one of my top priorities, and like many of you, I also send my own children to school here. Every potential threat is taken seriously and fully investigated.
If you see or hear anything concerning, please report it. While rumors can spread quickly, we look into all of them. Please talk with your children about the importance of reporting anything they notice.
Throughout the year, we will be conducting safety drills—from fire drills to lockdown drills—to help ensure our students and staff are well-prepared. These drills will be done in coordination with local 911 services, law enforcement, the fire department, and Minnie Hamilton. When a drill occurs, students will be informed, and we will notify parents with a brief update.
