Creston News Week of October 21st

Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

The Creston area is having beautiful fall weather with leaves turning and frost covered windshields in the morning.  However, tomato & pepper plants have not been nipped.

The former Joe Echard place is now on the market.

Some Creston folks participated in the Wirt County Fire Department baked steak meal.

Barb Wright who is still undergoing therapy for her knee surgery celebrated her birthday by having friends from Ohio visit her.

The folks up at Minnie Hamilton had a big birthday party for Charles Russell who is now 86.  He received a huge amount of bubble gum along with new sweat pants, socks, shoes, shirts & candy.  Charlie has the hearts of the folks who work there.

There  was a “fender bender” the other afternoon near the Creston park & ride.  There were no broken bones, loss of blood, etc.

The Creston Halloween Party is on October 26 starting at 5 P. M.  As they say, “Dress up and be somebody.”

Kackles was having a big abortion rally and some folks came along and said “Jesus is Lord”.  She told the folks, “You are at the wrong rally, go down the street to the little gathering.”  Several local folks had a good laugh watching ‘Tampon Tim’ who claimed to carry weapons of war try to load his shotgun on the staged pheasant hunt.

The W. Va. Public Service Commission is hearing a case where Mother Hope, Rusty Hutson Jr.’s Diversified Gas & Oil are planning to eliminate free gas rights.  The story is that the lines are too old and there are too many leaks even though the language in most oil & gas leases note that is the responsibility of the landowner to supply the gas line to either the well or to a gathering line.  Supposedly Mother Hope is to supply propane or electric heat as a replacement.  It is no secret that the “big boys” have been wanting to get rid of free gas for a long time and new leases calling for free gas are rare.  Since the PSC routinely exists for the benefit of the companies that they “regulate” it would be well that folks keep a very close eye on what is really happening.  According to the press release citizens in all local counties are to be involved.  About 90 years ago Mother Hope had folks in Calhoun County who had unlimited free gas agree for a fixed volume of perhaps 200 mcf./year.

It was learned that former W. Va. State Senate president “Smiley” Carmichaels is no longer on the state payroll.

Early voting starts soon so those who have  to be elsewhere on election day can vote early.  Wirt & Calhoun counties both have some local races that should assure a big turnout as well as, of course, the presidential race.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $68.22/bbl. With condensate or super mountain high test fetched $50.22/bbl.  Marcellus & Utica light sold for $57.22/bbl.   A new firm is said to start drilling in Ohio’s oil Utica area and it is very likely, perhaps known by some that West Virginia likewise has a substantial area of oily Utica that is very thick (1100 feet at Mt. Zion and on Slate Creek).  The Henry Hub price for natural gas was $2.26.
