Scott A. Dettman Obituary

Scott A. Dettman, 64, of Burnsville, WV; departed this earthly life in the morning hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the WVU Medicine Braxton Memorial hospital in Gassaway, WV; following an unexpected illness.

He was born April 25, 1960 in Akron, OH; son of the late Donald and Betty (Johnson) Dettman.

Scott is a graduate of Calhoun County High School, class of 1978 and a graduate of Auto Diesel college in Indianapolis, IN. He is a former Owner/Operator of Glenville Auto and former employee of Drakes Auto in Glenville.

In his spare time, Scott enjoyed, fishing, boating, hunting, scouring flea markets for his treasures, spending time with family and friends, supporting his grandkids and the sports they play, and he was an avid fan of WVU sports.

On July 31, 2009 Scott was united in marriage to Carla (Godwin) Dettman, who survives at their Burnsville home.

Surviving are 2 children, Matthew Dettman (Yashica) of Clarksburg, WV; and Carrie Bodkins of Martinsburg, WV; a sister, Sheryl Stevens (Robert) of Big Springs, WV; and his step-mother, Edna Dettman of Grantsville, WV.

Also surviving are 3 grandkids, Trenton, Rylee, and Harper Bodkins, numerous other wonderful family and friends, and special pet, dog, June.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Tuesday, April 22, 2025 with Pastor Gary Devart officiating. Burial will follow in the K of P Cemetery in Burnsville. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM; Tuesday at the mortuary in Glenville.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to The Friends Auxiliary of William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital, 936 Sharpe Hospital Road, Weston, WV; 26452 in honor of Scott.

Certified funds must be presented to the Trustee for inspection at start if sale in order to be qualified to bid.
The referenced properties will be conveyed without covenants of warranty, and subject to all covenants, restrictions, easements, rights of way, and reservations which may be a matter of record in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office or visible upon the ground, all prior liens and encumbrances, including, without limitation, liens for real estate taxes, incinerator, sanitary, or sewer charges.
