Cross Dedicated in City Triangle on Easter Sunday

At 4 p.m. on Easter Sunday, several local residents gathered at the newly installed cross in the City of Grantsville’s traffic triangle for a dedication ceremony. The original thought came from Pete Walburn who began raising funds to have the cross located on the cliff of Minnie Hamilton Health Center, but due to some logistics wasn’t able to install at that location. Pete then requested permission of the City officials who gave their blessing on the project and the funds and creation quickly came together. The Calhoun Gilmer Career Center students constructed the cross and Hope gas provided the transport install in the traffic island, which was no small feat having to avoid utilities and know the safest place to the set the cross.

Pastor Rick Godfrey of First Baptist Church in Grantsville led the dedication prayer and Clayton Barnhart spoke on the hopeful conversations that would come as families passed by the cross.
