2026 Ag Dinner Meeting Set for Tuesday to Solar Grazing & Sheep Profitability!  

Each winter, WVU Extension-Roane County brings education, know-how and research right to your community through a series of educational dinner meetings. In 2026, we are offering two in-personmeeting in January and February and a hands-on tree pruning workshop in March! We encourage residents to take advantage of an opportunity to enjoy a meal with other area producers while gaining insights and knowledge to help improve various agricultural projects.  Local sponsors for these free programs include the Little Kanawha Conservation District and Farm Credit!

Beginning on next Tuesday, January 202026 at 6:30 PM in the Roane County Library MeetingRoom in Spencer, WV, please join us to hear from Dr. Camren Mairele about, “Grazing for Growth in the US Sheep Industry.”  Dr. Mairele will discuss solar grazing and explore the opportunities for grazing sheep and for landowners.  Participants of this dinner meeting will also get to hear about the work that the WVU College of Law and WVU Extension are doing in Farm Transition and Estate Planning from me. Pre-registration is required to help us plan for meals.  Please call 304-927-0975 no later thanMonday, January 19 by noon to join us!  

On Wednesday, February 18 at 6:30 PM in the Roane County Library Meeting Room in Spencer, WV, we will host Samanthia Johnson and Yarahy Leal, WVU Ph.D. candidates working in animal nutrition, feed efficiency, and immune functions. They will explain the value of microbial additives to preconditioning rations in boosting calf health and performance.

On Friday, March 13 at 1:00 PM, we will have our hands-on tree pruning workshop in the Roane County Courthouse Lawn in Spencer, WV with the help of our West Central Extension Master Gardener Association.
