Samantha Tanner – Lester, Candidate for WV House of Delegates against incumbent Delegate Roger Hanshaw, announced on social media that she is stepping down from her campaign saying that “No political office is worth the safety and peace of her family.” She further said that “Over the course of her campaign for WV House of Delegates, her family had experienced actions that made her family feel targeted, receiving unwanted attention, scrutiny and social hostility that they considered far beyond what would be viewed as normal political differences.” Stating that she did not want to sound accusatory, and understood the competitive nature of a political election but the level of attacks had created an atmosphere where her family no longer felt safe and felt intimidated.
She assured her supporters that she had followed the laws of resignation and expressed through her faith in Jesus Christ she was grieved at the behaviors of professing Christians that behaved contrary to scriptural values, quoting from Matthew 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
