Richard Reynolds Obituary

Richard Reynolds, 78, of Palestine, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Cedar Grove Assisted Living in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He was born April 12, 1948, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a son of the late Clifford and Lona (Drake) Reynolds.

Richard was a 1966 graduate of Parkersburg High School. In his younger years, he worked at Ralph’s Market and a local movie theater. He later found his true calling as an auctioneer and became a well-known figure throughout the area. Richard owned and operated Newark Auction House from 1969 until 2012 and continued sharing his talents as an auctioneer until December 2025. He was respected by many for his knowledge, personality, and love of meeting people.

Richard enjoyed collecting coins and antiques of all kinds and spent countless hours pursuing treasures and sharing stories with friends and fellow collectors. He will be remembered for his friendly nature, dedication to his profession, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Michelle (Dave) Thompson; adopted daughter, Jamie (Jim) Holbert; siblings, Ronzil (Sharon) Drake, Janet (Daniel) Atkinson, Velda (Dave) Settle, and Wilma (Danny) Beightol; grandchildren, Dylan Wilson, Hannah Keller, and Katie; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn Reynolds.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, 97 Juliana Street, Elizabeth, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Sayre Cemetery in Palestine, West Virginia.
