Some local folks attended the W. Va. State Folk Festival in Glenville.  As usual there was lots of fine music.  Music uses the other side of one’s brain which is also interesting.  At the concert Friday night there was a rendition of West Fork Girl and two versions of The Mouth of Stinson although, perhaps, one of the musicians had no idea as to the location of Stinson or what might have happened there.

Bobby Taylor played for the square dance Saturday evening which was unreal.  John Morris from Ivydale closed out the Saturday evening program.  The FFA strawberry shortcake & ice cream hit the spot and Gil’s pit beef & pork ran out of food.

The postal system announced that on July 12 first class letters will cost 82 cents, a four cent increase.  Older residents remember when first class letters cost 3 cents.  Back then letters usually took a day to be delivered but that was then.  One can stock up on 78 cent stamps that will work as 82 cent stamps.  Currently the Brooksville post office has some pretty ones.

Black eyed Susans, wild carrots (Queen Anne’s lace), milk weeds and butterfly weed are in full bloom.  To see a large patch of butterfly weed one needs to go over Nicut hill and the patch is on the Grantsville side.  The local area has received rain which is helping pasture fields and bringing on second cutting hay.

The Kingdom of Norway’s Statoil/Norsk Hydro, now called Equinor had been using their wells in the Marcellus as a cheap, quiet cash cow for other ventures, royal palace upgrades, etc.  Now with need for natural gas for data centers, etc. The kingdom has taken a more active part in what happens in this area.

There is now a class action lawsuit in Pennsylvania against XTO claiming that the Exxon company cheated land owners on royalties.  Now the Rockefeller family wants all leases that have binding arbitration excluded from the class action lawsuit.  This is what happened with the Jay Bee suit and those who signed binding arbitration were not made whole.  Companies are still sending out leases with the binding arbitration poison pill.  Seems no one down at the Mouth of the Elk really cares.

A search on the W. Va. Secretary of State’s web page shows that Utility Arborist was formed by a California firm and the head honcho is Uriel Reyes who lives in Wood County.  That is the company that has been cutting Mon Power rights-of-way around Creston.

The U. S. Energy Information Agency said that the price of natural gas [elsewhere] will average $3.60/MMBTU this year and $3.47 next year.  Presently natural gas elsewhere is $3.20.  As a result of the [more or less] halt in operations in & around Iran the price of crude oil crashed.  Presently, Ergon Oil Purchasing’s telephone number is not working.  The price of should fall quickly as well but the pro Iran, anti US folks have lots of stroke and influence in the “media” in congress & in the business sector.
