Sr. Trooper J.D. Richards filed a complaint in the Magistrate Court of Calhoun on Monday, August 17th, 2026, stating that on that date at approximately 12:52 p.m., he was notified of an active Domestic situation occurring on Spring Run Road in Arnoldsburg, WV. Calhoun County dispatch advised that a female phoned stating that the male at the residence had struck her in the face and busted her lip and hit her nose.
On the same date, Trooper Richards arrived on scene and observed a male outside the residence standing near the a sedan on cement blocks. Trooper Richards detained the male and identified him as Jeffery Hoskins.
After advising him of his Miranda Rights Trooper Richards inquired as to what had happened. Mr. Hoskins advised this Trooper that he and his wife had been arguing all morning. Mr. Hoskins advised that she had hit his hand with a rake and then Hoskins smacked her in the face.
On the same date Trooper Richards spoke with the victim who advised that she had received a Facebook message earlier in the day that had made Mr. Hoskins mad and they had been arguing about it. She stated that Mr. Hoskins had been throwing heavy objects and almost hitting her for some time. Then she advised that Mr. Hoskins was attempting to take some of her things in a trash bag out into the yard to burn them. She advised that she had been walking around with a rake or a stick, and that she tried to get her things away from Mr. Hoskins so he wouldn’t burn them. While doing this, she stated she accidentally hit Mr. Hoskins’ hand. After this, Mr. Hoskins smacked her in the face with the backside of his right hand which busted her lip and swelled her nose.
Trooper Richards observed those injuries on the victim including a knot on her head.
On the same date, Trooper Richards stepped back to Mr. Hoskins and advised that he was in custody now for Domestic Assault and Battery. He attempted to grab Mr. Hoskins to escort him towards this Trooper’s cruiser. While doing this, Mr. Hoskins pulled away from the Trooper multiple times. Trooper Richards was tripping and let go of Mr. Hoskins. Mr. Hoskins fell at this point and accumulated abrasions to his forehead. The Trooper followed EMS Personnel to Minnie Hamilton where Mr. Hoskins was checked out and discharged and then transported Mr. Hoskins back to the WVSP Grantsville Detachment to be processed.
Hoskins is currently in the Central Regional Jail being held on a $7,700 bond to await trial.
