There will be bingo on Saturday afternoon September 5 at the Creston Community Building.
The fall Creston ATV Poker Run will be Saturday, September 26, 2026. Some had some confusion over proposed 2027 dates. Come for a ride through the paw paw patch and much, much more. Make sure the wheel bearings are good, the winch works and that the tow strap is in the buggy. There will be a “bunny route” for those who want to avoid the serious mud.
The Creston area had two major power outages in less than a week. A couple of new power poles were set down on the dePue (Creston) straight.
Some local folks motored to Magnolia Ohio for the Ergon Oil Purchasing catfish fry. The tasty fish & fixins were served to a large crowd of folks who had a good time visiting, talking with other oil & gas folks and Ergon biggies like Barton Lampton had come up from Mississippi with the tasty main dish that were deep fried in a special oil blend that might have included Pennsylvania grade crude. Kathy Hill noted that she planned to retire so she was going to bring her replacement to see Creston area oil producers. The corn & soya beans look to make bumper crops.
Braidin & Eli Ferrell placed 7th & 11th respectively in the track meet held on Saturday.
It would seem that local state road workers are now allowed to have overtime. One sees folks working after 5 P. M. And on Saturday the trucks were hauling hot mix to Calhoun County. For years local men were only allowed 40 hour weeks while workers in southern counties had 50 hour weeks.
Hastings Station, the fractionation plant at Pine Grove in Wetzel County where almost all local natural gas goes, has been shut down for routine maintenance.
The Wirt road crew mowed the highways & byways in and around Creston while the Calhoun crew picked up the tree tops and firewood from Creston up to Grantsville.
Both Peanut & Dean Miller put up some fine hay. The Creston area got a sprinkle on Sunday. Fall wildflowers are now adding color to the landscape with golden rod and ageratum perhaps setting the pace.
From talk that one hears it would seem that the Wirt County School Board has visions of grandeur with a scheme to float a big bond issue to build a new school even though the county has a small tax base and does not have a growing student population. Also there is concern about the quality of the education provided with some looking for alternative school opportunities like the Christian school at Brooksville. One of the objections to a proposed data center is that “no one locally is qualified to work there”. Well why not?
Local residents continue to get unsolicited telephone calls about “all the extra benefits available from Medicare, money for rent & groceries, over the counter drugs,” etc. Then one reads about all the Medicare fraud programs & wonders if local folks are not being “used” by fraudsters to rip off the taxpayers. Some years ago a man received a SSI check for his daughter who was disabled. Then she married a fellow and the father was no longer entitled for the payment. Each month for over a year he mailed the check back to SS. Finally one was sent back with a return card and the checks stopped. But then the fellow got a letter from the government telling him he had to pay back all the money he was sent even though he returned the checks.
There is a meme going around showing the coal baronet and governor as Sumo wrestlers as the little coal baronet doesn’t like playing U. S. Senator (where he is an obvious backbencher) and wants to play governor again even though he still owes $millions in debts. If the W. Va. Senators had any power they would have seen to it that the SAVE Act was passed to help prevent large scale voter fraud.

Talk about data center continue and, of course, those who use cell phones use one every time they call. There is now objection and it turns out that the Chinese Communists had a program with 200,000 bots that were used like they were people to influence energy and AI views. There was to be a $90 billion project with gas fired power plants & AI centers at Homer City Pennsylvania but since Gov. Shapiro wants to be president he is now opposed. He tried to blame Sec. Kennedy because two infants died and the Gov. Said it was because they didn’t have measles shots. Of course infants don’t get measles shots and the coroner proved the gov fibbed. The Creston News writer had at least two kinds of measles and never heard of children dying because of the disease. After the Dr. Fauci virus & vaccine hoax no one now believes anything anyone says about shots & vaccines.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil dropped to $80.23/bbl. With condensate fetching just $63.25/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $70.23/bbl. Natural gas elsewhere brought $2.89/MMBTU or dekatherm.
