CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey ordered all United States and West Virginia flags at state facilities to be displayed at half-staff from dawn to dusk in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
“Twenty-five years later, we remember the innocent lives taken from us, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the families who have carried the weight of that terrible day ever since,” said Governor Morrisey. “September 11 changed our country forever, but it also showed the courage, strength, and resolve of the American people. We will never forget those we lost.”
Governor Morrisey is also asking West Virginians to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Governor Morrisey issued a proclamation recognizing September 11 as Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance and calling on West Virginians to honor the victims of the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The proclamation orders all State flags displayed at State facilities, along with the flag of the United States, to remain at half-staff from dawn to dusk today.
“On this solemn anniversary, we remember those who never came home and honor the first responders, service members, and countless Americans who answered the call in the days and years that followed,” Governor Morrisey said. “Their courage and sacrifice remind us of what it means to stand together as Americans.”
