Calhoun Youth Football traveled to Doddridge County to start off their season. The B team Dominated the Bulldogs to come away with the victory while the other teams fall short. The flag football team started off the day and play a good game but ended up being outscored 9 touchdowns to 8. Gunner Burrows and Kayleb Harris each had 2 touchdowns for Calhoun while Jace Nicholson, Jaxson Snodgress, Aaron Cunningham and Brantley Davis each had 1 touchdown.
The A team game followed and they ran into a tough Bulldog squad. Doddridge defeated Calhoun 30-0. Calhoun’s offense was led by Preston Sauer who had 26 yards rushing and 7 yards receiving. Ezra Anderson added 12 rushing yards and Michael Richards had 4 rushing yards. Trevor Mayle added 3 yards on the ground and also had to passing yards. Kason Stamper led the team with 7 tackles. Also contributing on defense was: Sam Bailey 5 tackles and a fumble recovery, Michael Richards 4 tackles, Trevor Mayle and Cohen Blankenship 3 tackles each, Landon Hawkins 2 tackles, and Preston Sauer Braydon Hardway and Jace Lemon 1 tackle each.
C team took the field next and they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. Calhoun was led by Haygan Houchin offensively as his 210 rushing yards and 2 TD’s (1 and 52 yards) had Calhoun either in the lead or tied for the majority of the game. However with about 40 seconds remaining in the game Doddridge was able to sneak in for a game tying touchdown and then scored the go ahead extra point to pull off the 19-18 victory over the Little Red Devils. Quentin Parkin added 56 rushing yards, Colten Heiney had 37 rushing yards and added an 8 yard TD and Raines Riddel had 6 rushing yards. Defensively Houchin paced the Red Devils with 10 tackles and had 2 fumble recoveries. Other defensive stats: Raines Riddel- 5 tackles, Quintin Parkin- 3 tackles and a fumble recovery, Michael McClain- 3 tackles, Colten Heiney- 3 tackles, Carper Summers- 2 tackles and a sack, Scarlett Probasco- 1 tackle
Ending up the day was Calhoun’s B team. The scoreboard showed 48-0 and the end of the day, but the game wasn’t as close as the scored appeared as Calhoun Dominated every aspect of the game. Calhoun had 399 total yards of offense while only allowing Doddridge to gain 57 total yards. On offense Bentley Snodgress had 175 yards rushing and scored 3 rushing touchdowns (1, 10 and 36 yards) he also added 3 receiving yards. Tyler Mayle had 170 yards rushing and had 2 rushing touchdowns (3 and 4 yards) he also had 6 yards receiving including a 3 yard receiving touchdown. Grayson Laughlin had 36 yards rushing and had a 1 yard rushing touchdown. Liam Yeager had 9 yards rushing and 9 passing yards. Including a 3 yard touchdown pass. Grayson Laughlin paced the team on defense with 9 tackles, 1 sack and a 31 yard touchdown fumble recovery. Other defensive stats: Chandler Cottrell- 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery, Josh Hardbarger- 7 tackles, Tyler Mayle- 5 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries, Jase Farley and Tristan Rogers- 4 tackles each, Carter Thompson- 2 tackles and 1 sack, Silas Cunningham and Koby Crislip- 2 tackles each, Bentley Snodgress, Liam Yeager, Brantley Schoolcraft and Kyle Shook- 1 tackle each
Calhoun will travel to Clay County for their next game on Saturday August 20th. C team will kickoff at Noon followed by B team and then A team.
