AES and PHE Students Exercise their Voting Rights

Most were a decade away from being able to vote, but the 3rd and 4th grade students of both Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools received a crash course about their future roles of choosing Government officials.

County Clerk Whitney Butler traveled to each school with the electronic voting machines in tow to allow the children to experience what it’s like to voice their opinion in voting. Arnoldsburg Principal Jeremy Johnson and Pleasant Hill Principal Ashley Cunningham were asked to choose two teachers in their school for the children to exercise their voting power to choose a favorite. The teachers listed on the electronic ballots were Erica Santos, Carissa Gumm, Samantha Hall and Connie Summers. The winners will be announced at the Calhoun County Commission meeting on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026.

Students learned not only about voting but the importance and role of every County Office in the Courthouse and the responsibilities of those officials.

Students were given handouts of what each official does “primarily” and information to take home reminding parents of the up and coming opportunity to make their voice count in the Primary Election on November 5th, 2026.
