Mickey Case Carter, age 26, appeared for his Preliminary Hearing in Calhoun Magistrate Court on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2 p.m. in Case 26-M07F-00006 charging First Degree Murder of 29 year old Emily Metheney on March 13th, 2026 at Chloe, WV.
Carter appeared before Magistrate Lora Davis with his Attorney, Mark Plant. At the advice of his Attorney the hearing was waived and the case was sent to Calhoun Circuit Court for Trial.
Multiple family and friends of the victim appeared for the hearing creating a very tense environment. Mr. Carter made several comments to the family including an apology. “It won’t bring her back” he said, “I wish it were me, it wasn’t on purpose, please don’t blame my parents…” the comments continued until officers stood between Carter and those in attendance advising him to refrain from speaking.
The response from the victim’s family was as expected for a family hurting at the loss of a child. The Courtroom was cleared and hearing ended.
Carter continues to be held without bond and was returned to the South Central Regional Jail Facility.
