Clara Bernice Hardman Wolfe, 95, of Elizabeth, peacefully left her earthly body on March, 14, 2024.

Clara, known by Bernice all her life, was born on March 9, 1929 to Walter William and Ermal (Vanhorn) Hardman in Lems Run, WV.

She attended school in Normantown, WV until her 10th grade tear when she married Paul Emerson Wolfe in 1946. She and Paul were married on August 25, 1946 and had five children, Walter (Betty, deceased) Wolfe, Mineral Wells, WV, Susan (Mickey, deceased) Roberts, Elizabeth, Donna, deceased (Mat) Erickson, Akron, OH, Keith (Jeannie) Wolfe, Soperton, Ga, William (Cheryl) Wolfe, Rosedale, WV.

Bernice spent the first 22 years of marriage as wife, mother and homemaker. In early 1968, she earned her GED, receiving her high school equivalency degree. She obtained her first job outside of the home working for the Gilmer County Community Action Agency during the summer of 1968. In the fall of that year she started as an aide at Normantown Elementary School. In 1976 she transferred to Gilmer County High School where she worked for an additional 21 years as a special education aide. She retired in 1989 but continued to volunteer at the high school for 10 years. Bernice touched many lives during her tenure with Gilmer County school system.

Not only was Bernice blessed with her five children but she also had 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Bernice’s family was blessed with five living generations, and this was an amazing blessing to her family. Bernice was Grandma (Ma) Wolfe to so many throughout her lifetime.

Bernice was preceded in death by husband Paul, brother Bryan Hardman and wife Colene, daughter Donna, daughter-in-law Betty Wolfe, son-in-law Mickey Roberts and grandson Scott Roberts.

Bernice enjoyed crocheting, making handmade quilts, reading, puzzle books, and game shows especially The Price is Right. Her most precious time was spent with her family. In the last few years she loved keeping up and seeing all the little ones grow while viewing her photo frame. She could tell you who they were and what picture would be flashing up next. She was so proud of her family.

Bernice was a devoted member of the Shock Church of Christ and loved her church family like her own.

The family would like to share their appreciation to all the staff at Elizabeth Care Center. A special thanks to the nursing staff who loved and cared for our mother and grandmother over the past two years.
