Not that Ridgeview News has received notice, but it has been confirmed by others that there will be a special meeting of the Calhoun County Commission on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 at 9 a.m. concerning Arpa Funds.
According to the social media post shown above, Commissioner Kevin Helmick apologized for the failed broadband project. He was quick to blame the federal government but has not accepted any responsibility of his own for the fact that there has been very little over site for a project that Calhoun’s Commission put all of the County’s dough into one bread basket without consideration for any other needful infrastructure projects. Knowing for months that this was coming down the pike and having very limited time, the commission continued to drag its feet saying they didn’t want to rush into such a big decision. A decision they had no problem rushing into last year. They are now running the risk of not receiving any of the matching funds or engineering studying funding that had been promised for consideration months ago from Delegate Roger Hanshaw.
While Helmick noted that he was not against any water project funding, the failure to act doesn’t shout “support.”
Calhoun Citizens for Accountability have been following the ARPA funding, as well as Commissioner Arthur’s attempt to make progress with Charleston regarding infrastructure funding. It has been said that Commissioner Arthur could possibly have a meeting with the Governor’s Office regarding the Water projects and future options.
Wednesday’s meeting will be covered live by Ridgeview News.
