The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department were conducting a home confinement check on April 2nd, 2026 at the home of Richard Earl Conley, when they discovered several bottles of alcoholic beverages, 2 scales (one digital, one primitive), approximately one pound of cannabis divided into several different weight classifications (1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce). Also found was a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.

In a post-Miranda interview, Conley advised that he had purchased the cannabis out of Oregon and had it mailed. He stated that he doesn’t sell it, but that he has several people that come to him and he gives it to them.

In a search of the outbuildings behind the residence, Deputy C.R. Stephens located a Western Marshall .357 magnum revolver. When asked about the firearm, Conley stated that he knew Zeb Hamrick had the gun when he lived with Conley but he was under the impression that Zack Stump had stolen it from Hamrick. Deputy Stephens had personal knowledge from a previous case that Conley is a prohibited person for a conviction related to operating a clandestine drug lab.

It should be noted that Conley is currently on bond through Calhoun Circuit Court for possession of a rifle while being a prohibited person and on home confinement for DUI through Calhoun Magistrate Court. Conley was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm by prohibited person.

He is currently being held in the WV Central Regional Jail awaiting trial. Bond was set at $40,000.
