The big spring Creston ATV Poker Run will be Saturday April 25 starting at the Creston Community Building. Creston is on W. Va. 5 halfway between Grantsville & Elizabeth. The day will start with biscuits & gravy and riders can leave at 9 A. M. With the last time being at noon. The 60 mile ride has lots of water and places to test out machines, he men, Amazon women, etc. in holes that most riders can avoid. There are all sorts of wildflowers, butter cups, phlox, trilliums, stone crop, foam flower, wild geraniums, white violets and, in one instance a large road bank covered with wild iris (flags). The trees are leafing out and there are all sorts of scenic views, oil field pictures, places for a family picnic along the way, majestic rocks, caves and wild animals to watch. Also there are new Creston tee shirts and chances on a new quilt that has folks talking.
The bridge inspection crew was in Creston inspecting the span that crosses the Little Kanawha. Off the record, the inspectors stated that they had nothing good to report. It is said that State Project S353-5-13 is to be placed out for bid in July.
Workmen from City Net have been in Creston and environs.
The Creston Neighborhood Watch will have a litter pickup starting at 5 P. M. On Tuesday April 28. Gather at the Creston Community Building.
There will be a Flea Market/Yard Sale at the Creston Community Building on Saturday May 2 for those who look for fleas or those who look for good deals at other peoples’ sales.
The next Creston bingo game will be on Saturday May 9.
Charles Haverty was attending to business in Creston and was inquiring why a certain column was not in the Calhoun Chronicle. Local folks are clueless. The column is in the Trader’s Guide and on line at the Ridgeview News.
Ted Grim is spending some time at his place in Creston.
Coal baronet Jim Justice who was governor and is now U. S. Senator continues to have serious financial woes. He owed hundreds of millions to the Carter Bank & the bank sold the bad loans to the Omni Hotel chain. These folks plan to place the Greenbrier Hotel in receivership [the real estate taxes will sell soon] and take over operations. Those who are victims of his prior antics are losing no sleep. It was noted that this might foul up his plans to run for governor again in 2028.
Brenda Sinnett, age 61, of Brooksville succumbed after a long fight with cancer. The funeral will be on April 25.
At the Wirt County Farm Bureau meeting there was a discussion about the impacts on pastures and meadow [also crops & gardens] as caused by drought. It was noted that the combined damage of the 2023 & 2024 droughts was not “healed” by last year’s rain and it would appear that there is now incipient drought and some pasture fields show extreme stress & it is still April. It was also noted that next year will be “Flood Year”. There was the 1913 flood, the 1937, 1967 & 1997 floods. Obviously, time will tell. Up in Pennsylvania some streams have curtailed the use of water for drilling.
A local physician noted that the media folks were “upset” over higher fuel prices because of the Iran conflict but that the same folks were happy when the Big Eared One & the senile fellow had much higher fuel prices. Well, dontcha see those higher prices were for a “good cause” to make you walk, ride a bicycle, ride the bus, etc. & “save” the planet. The Big Eared One talked about “managed decline” for America and now the presidential push is for a return to excellence and the elimination of threats to America that had been allowed to fester for decades. Europe & Canada are in obvious decline but the United States of America should remain the shining city on the hill.
Along those lines the deep state is fighting tooth & nail to stop forward movement. In W. Va. There is upset that dyes are to be removed from food even if the colorings may be harmful and the “medical establishment” is irate that folks would talk about “medical freedom”. How dare the peasants ask questions. Your baby will get 72 vaccines even if they were never tested and so what if autism is caused. This is “progress” and we need profits.
Even the mainstream media has to admit that the anti frac wells for energy crowd has now become the Anti AI/Data Center crowd. The anti frac crowd was funded, in part, by Russia who didn’t want world wide competition for oil & gas and dictator Xi from the happy peoples republic of China wants to rule the world & if the US leads on information they know they lose. There will be a meeting May 14 at the Hilton Garden Inn at South Point (Pittsburgh) concerning energy and AI. As a point of reference it is said that, at present there are 192 existing data centers in Ohio, 98 in Pennsylvania and 7 in West Virginia.
Antero indicated that if they had to pay fair market royalties they might have to consider pulling up their existing wells and deciding to drill elsewhere. Their 15% net leases pay just under 7% even though the state minimum royalty in 12.5%.and the possibility of 25% gross leases (what should be the norm) sounded like a certain count facing a wooden cross. W. Va. Has world class oil & gas fields but corrupt politicians only see “quick bucks” to them, not a golden future for West Virginia.
A local couple was awakened at 3 A.M. by a telemarketer who had plans for wonderful vacations. The medicare/medicad scam calls continue with up to a dozen call/day saying that you qualify for cash back, etc. When they are told that they should call the Clintons & the Obamas they hang up.
The NYMEX price for May natural gas was $2.724/MMBTU & the price for local Pennsylvania grade crude slipped to $82.85/bbl. With condensate fetching $64.85/bbl. & Marcellus & Utica light bringing $71.85/bbl. In some instances retail fuel prices reflected the crude prices spoken of on tee vee but, obviously actual oil sales prices show much lower values.
