The Creston area has been experiencing warm weather with birds singing & flowers. Mary Shaw’s & Pat Shaw’s magnolia trees are at their peak while colt’s foot, henbit and jonquils have joined in the color being added to the landscape. Local folks are trying to adjust to the government mandated “fast time”, a leftover from World War II decrees to the peasants.
Creston was to have [perhaps] strong winds & tornados the other evening but on Friday there was a strong wind that blew open a kitchen door and caused bowls to fall off an open shelf across the room.
As part of the MAHA movement (Make America Healthy Again) & to save taxpayer dollars the use of food stamps to purchase candy & pop is now not allowed. But, wouldn’t you know ,a group of welfare kings & queens, including some from West Virginia, are suing the US. Department of Agriculture to change the guidelines. In a fair world the use of food stamps would be restricted to flour, meal, rice, powered milk & dry beans.
The Creston bridge across the Little Kanawha continues to be a topic of discussion, especially after a woman tried to call Engineer Evans about the status. Our local two state senators, Trent Barnhart & Mike Azinger got into the fray and, wouldn’t you know, a local resident who has land near the span was contacted by A. Morton Thomas & Associates concerning Federal Project STP-0005(171)D and on Thursday a carload of state employees who put on snow & deep grass boots were seen near the old H. C. “Brick” dePue house beside the bridge.
The war to prevent nuclear bombs from being made by the mullahs has had an impact on oil world wide and, not to let an opportunity get away, the price of crude oil & gasolene has gone up even though the quantities of petroleum & petroleum products in America has not been impacted. The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude rose to $97.71/bbl. With condensate fetching $79.71/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $86.71/bbl. Ergon, the local oil buyer, indicated that the company is running out of storage space because so much local crude has been shipped. Of course Penn grade crude is not used for gasolene & black top but for high end products, cosmetics & such.
Mr. Max McCoy, a vet from Mason County, was the speaker at the Wirt County Farm Bureau meeting. Among the members present there had been 21 lost calves and a bull lost. Some feel that this was because of the disease that decimated the deer herd last fall but it was clear that the W. Va. Dept. of Agriculture and the W. Va. DNR (game wardens) were of no help and not interested. The vet discussed several other diseases that could be impacting the herds and he suggested that dead calves and placentas be taken to the Ohio State lab in Reynoldsburg near Columbus to get answers.
Watson Sheppard & David E. Barr were both attending to business in Creston.
Trish Mowrey was attending to business in Grantsville.
Denver based Antero Resources announced that the firm is now the #2 producer of NGLs (natural gas liquids) in the nation. In Antero’s new leases the firm does not want to pay for liquids and our “state leaders” seem to be asleep at the switch. One would think that the state tax department would be concerned about the loss of severance and county ad valorem taxes but, perhaps not.
Over in Marietta Ohio there are signs to stop the data center and it seems that Dictator Xi is all for that. It was noted that there will be a 7.3% increase in the use of natural gas to power the centers if they are allowed to be built. The folks down under the golden dome are talking about more new laws for data centers but nothing about the proposed self contained wells, power plant & data center complex at the mouth of Katy’s Run. Perhaps if some out of state slickster was involved it would be #1 in priority.
The local mail carrier & her sister have been spending some time up in Ohio Amish country.
