A Wood County politician that the state had just started reviewing possible sites in the state for data centers. Apparently they just “got right with it” as the W. Va. DEP had hearings on possible power plants proposed by New York City based TransGas Development Systems LLC to supply two data centers, one at Wharncliffe and the other on Mine 22 road off Corridor G (US 119) at the Logan/Mingo County line. The W. Va. Chamber of Commerce held a big meeting down at the Greenbrier and there was a lot of unhappiness that the state was stuck top dead center while Kentucky, Virginia and Pennsylvania were getting facilities to locate in their states. Of course, it should be noted that when one had folks like Smiley Carmichaels in charge what would one expect? Utilities in Texas, Pennsylvania & Ohio are making commitments with data centers in those states. One thing for sure, State Senate President Randy Smith is not to blame for the state’s lack of action. At the meeting it seemed that one U. S. Senator expressed frustration at the state chief executive.
