Denzil Ray Whipkey, 75, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at his home.
He was born October 18, 1950, in Grantsville, WV, a son of the late Brady and Edith Whipkey.
Denzil was a graduate of Calhoun County High School and worked many jobs over the years. Working for BFGoodrich, Armacell, and as a Postal Carrier, to just name a few.
Denzil enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless hours in the woods hunting and found the most excitement in going after a big turkey and buck.
Denzil is survived by his wife Sonja Whipkey of Arnoldsburg, WV; his three children, Brady (April) of Glenville, WV, Dena Stump (Steve) of Ripley, WV, Nancy Whipkey of Trenton, SC; stepson Tyler Tanner (Caitlin) of Pleasant Hill and stepdaughter Ashley Tanner. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Joseph Whipkey (Katelyn), Alejandra Whipkey, Avery Whipkey, Autumn Whipkey, Zac Stump, Nicholas Whipkey, Ethan Boggs (Kaylan), Hayden Stump, Noa Tanner, Sutton Tanner, and Harlea Conrad. Two great-grandchildren Sophia and Zeke; and two brothers Roger Whipkey of Elizabeth, WV and Charlie Ritchie of Newton, WV. Denzil also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Denzil was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pauline Swisher, Renice Francis, Kitty Swisher, Grace Holcomb, and one brother Tim Whipkey.
Denzil will be cremated and a memorial service held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg, WV 25234 on Friday November 7, 2025. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with the service at 6:30.
