Donald Kemper “Don” Bailey Obituary

Donald Kemper “Don” Bailey, 85 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life for her eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 11, 2025 at the Glenville Center Nursing Facility in Glenville, WV; following an extended illness.

He was born February 15, 1940 in Cox’s Mills, WV; son of the late Milton and Mildred (Kemper) Bailey.

Don is a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1958. He is also a graduate of Glenville State College where he obtained a degree in teaching. Don worked as a social worker for the Department of Health and Human Resources, having retired in 1995. He was also a woodworker and laborer for Wayne Construction for many years.

Don is a longtime member of the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a former Assistant Chief and dedicated more than 30 years of service to his community. He is a longtime member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He is a member of the Gilmer County Farm Bureau and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sitting on his front porch living the quiet life in Normantown.

On December 20, 1963 Don was united in marriage to Linda Mae (James) Bailey, who preceded him in death on November 23, 2019.

Surviving are 2 children, Debbie Allen and husband Randy of Normantown WV; and Todd Bailey and wife Becky of Normantown, and 3 grandchildren, Joshua Allen and wife Chelsea of Burnsville, WV; Jessica Lenart and husband Gregg of Wellington, OH; and Jeremiah Allen and wife Kaitlyn of Normantown.

Also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren, Carson Allen, Hallie Lenart, Zoey Allen, Bailey Allen, Kemper Allen, and Mya Lenart, brother-in-law, Jerry James, nephew, Cody James, and a host of other loving family and friends.

A funeral Service will be conducted at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Stumptown, WV; at 1:00 PM; Friday, August 15, 2025 with Pastor Larry Fisher and Rev. Tim Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Beall Cemetery near Normantown. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM; Friday at the church in Stumptown.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 255, Glenville, WV; 26351 in honor of Don.
